Metrolist MLS committee – the case for getting involved

by Carolyn on February 11, 2009

On Tuesday I attended my first Metrolist MLS meeting as a committee member.  I have been a director for the Yolo Association of REALTORS®  for the past year and now I’m  also serving on the regional MLS committee.  Metrolist is not owned by any type of REALTOR® association but is privately owned.  The committee and Metrolist staff are a good group of people.  I have been very pleased that everyone from Metrolist has made a point of talking to me and finding out what is important to me.  The major points of discussion in our region continue to be focused on the California Association of REALTORS®  push for a statewide MLS.  Our region is pleased with the current system and feels this is a waste of member dues money.

I am going to be serving on a subcommittee to help create our region’s VOW policy – VOW’s are not currently offered, only IDX feeds.  (VOW’s are another way listing data can be displayed on agents and brokers websites).

It is still my belief that tech-savvy real estate agents need to be getting involved with their local associations and volunteer for these positions.  We are the ones who understand how econsumers are using online technology in their home search.  We are also the ones who know that consumers are smart enough to know that sites like mine are not the actual Sacramento MLS but give them access to listing data.
