Since I’m just getting this blog up and running here at the end of the year, thought I would lay out a few real estate goals for the next year.
- Spend time learning to blog more quickly – still have the mindset that blogging is a necessary evil to building a web presence. Need to change my attitude (and part of the reason for this blog – a bit more freedom).
- Become a video expert – I have a Flip Mino need to integrate more video into my websites and blogs. It is a great tool for anyone online. Also need to learn to edit video.
- Finish Discover Davis Homes – I have been working on several major changes to my Davis Real Estate site. I don’t think you can really ever be done with a site but at least get it to a place where it can take care of itself for a while.
- Get my Sacramento Real Estate site up and running. It will be a regional site and I’m so looking forward to getting this live. It is still in the early stages, but really hope to have this live in the next month or so.
- Build a team to work my website leads and focus on lead conversion. I can not effectively work the leads I’m currently getting let alone the leads I hope to get when the new website goes live. No matter what the real estate market does in 2009, with an effective lead conversion system in place, it will be a great year.
- Put more systems in place for everything: website building, networking, lead conversion. With having multiple websites, systems are going to be key to efficiency.
My most important goal for 2009 is:
- Focus on results and not rankings. I know I’ve spent too much time focused on where my site sits in the search engines. While working towards good placement is important, having great rankings is meaningless unless the people who visit the site find it useful. If I can get my mind to focus on this as a priority, 2009 will be a great year.
What is your most important goal for 2009?

If you figure out how to work with and edit videos efficiently, be sure you let me know! I’m also on a big video push. So far, I’ve just ended up mostly frustrated by it all.
You mean we need to edit the videos? j/k Finding the right software for editing is definitely on my short list of things to do. I just hope I don’t need to get a mac to do it – I have enough computers already.
The video thing is also on my list. I think adding video over the next year will be big. Anything you guys learn – please share.
How do you like the Flip Mino? [I think Scott Hack just got one as well.] I need to get one thats A) cheap B) shoots decent clips C) easy to deal with. I know Eric Blackwell got a different kind – so I’m hoping Scott, Eric & I can get together and do a side by side comparison.
Scott has the flip mino HD – I have the regular one but it’s not actually mine – I’m borrowing it from my mom so I’ll likely get the HD as well. The flip is so easy to use. I just need to get some editing software loaded up. The difference in quality is quite amazing.
Video editing, production and distribution should be effortless, or at least once you have the system down.
A couple of months ago I did a video on editing video for the company and it will probably help.

This assumes you have a PC – if a Mac, you have iMovie (which works somewhat the same). If you have questions – feel free to ask : )
Mike thanks I know a number of us are looking for easy editing solutions for the PC, your video was very easy to understand, I will try to edit some of my videos with windows movie maker soon.
Hi Carolyn, those are very realistic goals, I hope you’re able to meet all of them. Would be interested in knowing how the videos work out for you, I know several people who have tried, but felt they were spending too much time on it.
